African Bushveld of South Africa

The African Bushveld ecoregion covers 54% of Southern Africa -- 223,100 square kilometers -- and is part of the African Savannah Biome, the dominant vegetation of Africa. A Savannah is a grassland with trees.

Although African Savannah and Acacia Woodland as is portrayed in the "Lion King"do exist in South Africa, the predominant Nature Reserve / Game Reserve habitat is Bushveld.

The African Bushveld has little endemic flora or fauna. It has the large mammals and rich bird life which is typical of the African savannah. The ecoregion covers the northern part of South Africa and runs into Botswana and southern Zimbabwe.
