Shimuwini Bushveld Camp - Kruger National Park:

Location: The camp is situated on the upper reaches of the Shimuwini Dam in the Letaba River about 50 km from the Phalaborwa Gate on the Mooiplaas Road.

Description:

Regulations: Visitors may take occupation of their accommodation from 12:00 and are requested to vacate before 09:00 on the day of departure.

Entrance gates and restcamp gates are closed at night. Visitors must ensure that they arrive at the entrance gate in good time to reach the restcamp before closing time. No permits will be issued for late arrivals.

Accommodtion:

There are fifteen family cottages which can accommodate 71 visitors.

One three-bedroom cottage (6 persons)
Each bedroom has two single beds, a ceiling fan, and a bathroom (with bath, toilet and washbasin) en suite. There is a lounge/diningroom on an open veranda. The kitchen has a gas stove (with oven), refrigerator, sink, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. An outside shower and washbasin complete the facilities.

Nine two-bedroom cottages (5 persons per cottage)
One of the bedrooms has two single beds, a ceiling fan and a bathroom (bath, toilet and washbasin) en suite. The second bedroom has three single beds and a ceiling fan. There is a separate toilet and washbasin and a separate shower and washbasin. The kitchen has a gas stove (with oven), refrigerator, sink, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. The lounge/diningroom is on an open veranda.

Five one-bedroom cottages (4 persons per cottage)
The bedroom has two single beds and a ceiling fan. The livingroom has two single beds and a ceiling fan. The bathroom (with bath, toilet and washbasin) has interleading doors to the bedroom and the livingroom. The kitchen has a two-plate gas stove (without oven), sink, refrigerator, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. An open veranda serves as the diningroom and kitchen.

Services / Facilities:
  • All units have electric lights provided by solar panels.
  • Refrigerators do not have freezing compartments, but a communal freezer is available at the reception office.
  • Each cottage has its own barbecue facilities.
  • Open parking is available.
  • The nearest shops are in the Letaba and Mopani restcamps.
  • Units are serviced and bedding, towels and soap are provided.
  • Night drives and day excursions.

General Information:

- Climate
Satara is in a summer rainfall area. Such precipitation is usually convectional and can result in heavy downpours. The summer months (October to April) are hot and often humid. Winters are warm and mild, although visitors going on night-drives will require warm clothing.

- Day Visitors
Satara has a designated day visitor area where day visitors and visitors from other camps can barbecue (braai) and picnic. As one enters the gate, it is reached by turning to the left.
