Botswana Geology
Devoid of mountains, the sandy basin that is the core of Botswana's topography, gives rise to its emerald gem, the massive inland lake, the Okavango Delta. The Kavango River, which rises deep within the Angolan highlands, seems to defy logic when one looks at a map -- instead of heading out to sea; the river heads inland, flooding the Okavango Delta in the driest time of the year.
