Approximately 54 Mammal species occur in the Southern Drakensberg region of KwaZulu Natal -- a little more than a sixth of the 293 mammal species in Southern Africa. The area includes the southern section of the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park.
The mammal species of the Southern Drakensberg range in size from the shrews and pygmy mice at less than 10g to the worlds largest antelope, the Eland, weighing over 400kg!
