For starters, South Africa has the highest commercial bungee jump in the world -- at 216 metres, it's not for the faint of heart.

Bloukrans Bridge Bungi Jump -- The Bloukrans Bridge is situated in a region just east of the southern tip of Africa, which is richly endowed with fine weather and great natural beauty. This area is renowned for its rugged coastline and sun-drenched beaches and has earned the name "The Garden Route" in recognition of the unspoiled forests and abundant natural flora with which it is blessed.

The Garden Route region boasts a number of deep and impressive gorges, easily accessed via narrow winding roads carved through the dense natural forests, or effortlessly crossed on the newer bridges built high above the rivers below. You can now bungi-jump the highest commercial bungi jump in the world, surpassing the position previously held by Vic Falls. The bridge is 216m high with the actual jump being about 160m. You jump from the arch support of the Bloukrans bridge. A unique pendulum bungi system ensures the longest and smoothest ride in the world.

Access to the jump point on the top of the arch is via a specially designed walkway underneath the road deck. The walkway is also 216m long, and offers a breathtaking and awesome veiw of the gorge. Walking tours are offers along this historic bridge.

Run by Face Adrenalin, the Bloukrans is on the border of the Eastern and Western Cape.

The same company also offers a range of jumps on the much lower Gouritz River Bridge. Here you'll also find South Africa's only commercial bridge swinging operation, run by Wildthing Adventures.

Not sure of difference between bungee jumping and bridge swinging? With bungee, you jump off a bridge (or other high fixed platform) with giant elastic bands usually, but not always, tied to your feet.

Bridge swinging, on the other hand, involves jumping from one bridge while tied in to climbing ropes suspended from an adjacent bridge.

Wild 5 Swing in the Oribi Gorge of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

The Wild Gorge swing is an awesome experience that leaves you breathless but exhilarated. Situated at the top of Lehrs falls, it is the highest swing in the world. One steps or jumps off the waterfall to swing into the depths of the gorge in a 100m (33 Storeys) arc. Unbelievable!! A full body harness is used to allow for a comfortable ride. Fully qualified personnel are on hand to prepare one for this experience.

Operators:

Oribi Gorge Resort near Port Shepstone in KwaZulu-Natal offers the Wild Swing, a jump from the top of Lehrs falls down 100m into the gorge - at 33 storeys, it's the highest swing in the world.
