Travel guide to the Hotel, Guest House, Bed & Breakfast, Self-Catering, Cabin, Lodge and Resort Accommodation in Weenen.
Most of the accommodation in the Weenen district is in the Thukela Biosphere Reserve which includes the Tugela, Bushmans and Bloukrans River valleys and incorporates KZN Wildlife's Weenen Nature Reserve. Game lodges and Self-Catering Accommodation
The Thukela Biosphere Reserve is excellent for horse trails, game viewing and bird watching. White water rafting and fishing are popular in the fast flowing rivers. The area of the biosphere reserve covers grasslands, steep forested valleys and riverine vegetation.
One can expect to see buffalo, kudu, leopard, steenbok, hartebeest, jackal, bushbuck, reedbuck, giraffe, hyaena, elephant, rhino, zebra, wildebeest, crocodiles, pythons and monitor lizards.
The Weenen Game Reserve (operated by KZN Wildlife) has excellent game viewing areas and facilities including some excellent hides. The guided walks operated from the entrance gate camp site are a great way to get close to nature. The rustic accommodation is a camping site, a bush camp (Nyandu Bush Camp) which suitable for large groups and environmental education for school groups and a guest lodge.
The Weenen Game Reserve covers an area of typical inland KwaZulu-Natal acacia grassland with occasional thickets. More than 230 species of birds have been recorded (there are two hides overlooking a dam) and the reserve is an excellent example of how a severely degraded habitat can be successfully rehabilitated. There are three picnic sites.
Weenen is located in the Battlefields region of KwaZulu Natal province of South Africa.
